Social value

Compassion meaning in real life

Compassion is the choice to stay near pain with care instead of turning away, hardening, or making the suffering prove itself first.

Longer read

Compassion becomes visible when another person's difficulty registers as real and worthy of response. It is not pity and it is not self-erasure. It is the willingness to remain human in the presence of strain, to offer help or warmth without demanding that the other person become less inconvenient first.
